Who Am I

PXL_20241005_233032819.MP~2.jpg

I am a wilderness therapist in my heart and soul, and I cannot imagine separating personal growth from the natural world. I grew up backpacking in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, and my time outside as a young one helped me cope with the struggles and challenges of adolescence and young adulthood. In 2013, I thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine.

This was a time of adventure and healing, and it inspired me to help others do the same. I devoted myself to working with people – from an orphanage in Brazil to a secondary school in Thailand.

Since then I have grown into a fully licensed wilderness therapist in Colorado and Utah.  My desires to forge relationships and be of service have led me to the San Juan Mountains of Southwestern Colorado, where my personal story keeps me passionate about guiding, healing, and living the truest version of myself.

I have attended several 10-day long Vipassana meditation retreats, and my practice remains a core part of how I relate to myself, the world, and others who inhabit it. Music is also a huge part of my life: writing songs, playing music, listening to music, talking about music…singing and dancing are some of the oldest ways humans praise, grieve, and connect. I am also passionate about sports – just ask me the stats of any Boston team. But at the end of the day, I am always happiest spending time with my beautiful family.

Credentials & Training

I hold a Master’s degree from Naropa University in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology, with a concentration in Wilderness Therapy. My academic research focused on the neurobiological effects of screen overuse in adolescents, and I am a certified researcher through the National Institute of Health’s (NIH) Office of Extramural Research. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in both Colorado and Utah, and I hold a certificate in somatic post-traumatic growth therapy. I am certified to offer clinical supervision and sign-off on licensure hours in Colorado.

Experience

I spent several years as a lead therapist at Open Sky Wilderness Therapy. My early therapeutic experience involved helping adolescent males with depression, anxiety, trauma, and addiction navigate the transition to adulthood. And helping their parents too!

Since then, I have built a private practice over the better part of a decade. I work with individuals, couples, parents, and families. While I have expertise supporting young adult males and their families, I have broad experience with many types of clients. I am open to working with anyone if the relationship feels right.

Treatment Approach

I prioritize human connection, and believe that relationship is the number-one building block of any therapeutic alliance. Before any work occurs, I focus on building trust. Family therapy is an essential part of my background, and I incorporate systems work into all of my facilitation.
